A Taste of Shakespeare
HAMLET

WINS BRONZE APPLE AWARD

Scene from Hamlet

A Toronto-based company - Eugenia Educational Foundation - has won an award for its first production.

The National Educational Media Competition gave out its annual awards in Oakland, California on May 18th, 1996, and Eric Weinthal, the script-writer/co-director/actor of A TASTE OF SHAKESPEARE: HAMLET was there to accept the Bronze Apple Award. Hamlet was the first in a videotape series designed to get students excited about Shakespeare's plays in a format of less than an hour. The video was co-directed by Dug Rotstein and executive-produced by Doug Craniford.

Conceived by high school teacher and college lecturer, Dr. Ada Craniford, this series features professional actors who play key scenes, then break out of character to address the audience, telling parts of the story not acted out, and raising provocative questions, so that viewers can debate their own interpretations of Shakespeare's timeless works.

Video Librarian” calls A TASTE OF SHAKESPEARE: HAMLET “hip, entertaining and insightful...kudos to the four Canadian actors who bring this production to life. Highly recommended.”
